If you are using MS Frontpage for your website design then this little story may be of interest to you!
A client contacted me because he was experiencing much ‘Pulling out of the hair’ over trying to upload files to his website via FTP (File Transfer Protocol) Every time he tried to transfer files to his web hosting, he received the error message ‘FTP session terminated’ in his Frontpage program.
This Frontpage error message seems to be more common than I thought but the solution to the problem is normally so simple once you know!
The problem is usually associated with the remote website properties not being set to ‘Passive’
Here’s the fix…
1. Click on the ‘Remote website’ tab from the bottom left of the screen within MS Frontpage.
2. Towards the top right of the screen you will see ‘Remote Website Properties’ Click on this.
3. When the pop up window opens, you will see a check box named ‘Use Passive FTP’
4. Make sure this box is ticked then click ‘OK’
That’s it – job done!
If the problem still persists, you should run a check of the connection between your computer and the port 21. If there is a problem with the connectivity you should try disabling your local firewall, or, if this does not help, you should contact your Internet Service Provider but 8 out of 10 times, the problem of FTP session terminated error in MS Frontpage is due to the passive box not being ticked.
Hope it helps…
