So you’ve found it! The most amazing new affiliate program and you are convinced that everyone is going to want one of these, so you sign up for the ‘MyNewWizbangWidget’  affiliate program.

It’s a brilliant product and the site owner has some really kick butt marketing materials for you to use. Then you get your affiliate link and it says some thing like..

Now doesn’t that look nice! – NO

It would be much better if it said..

or

Now before I go any further, I should say that the term affiliate link cloaking is a term that is frond upon by search engines, even to the degree that it can get your site banned. That’s NOT what we are talking about here. We should really describe it as ‘affiliate link redirection’ It’s just that most people call it ‘affiliate link cloaking’ so that’s the term I will refer to in this article.

To give you an example of what I’m talking about, click on the 2 links below..

You will notice that they both go to the same website (my affiliate link for Automatic Article Submitter, which by the way is a fantastic product blah! blah!)

So how is it done? Surprisingly, it’s really quite simple!

To do it you will need to have your own hosted website and be able to upload files to it via FTP or some other means.

The first thing to to is create a new ‘directory’ or folder in the root directory of your site. So for instance in the above example I have created a new directory called ‘recommends’ You can call it what you like, it doesn’t matter but calling it ‘recommends’ looks like I am recommending it. It could just as easily be named ‘go’ or ‘goto’ or anything you choose – get the idea?

Next you will need to create another directory. This directory MUST go inside the ‘recommends’ (or what ever you called it) directory or ‘folder’

So again in the above example I created ‘recommends’ then inside that I created ‘auto-article-submitter’

This folder should be named so it reflects the name of the affiliate program you are promoting.

Now inside the last folder (the one with the affiliate program name – ‘auto-article-submitter’ for example) you need to create a small html file and name it index.html  Here’s the code for that file..

The bits in red are the bits you need to change to reflect your affiliate link..

The section that goes – <meta HTTP-EQUIV="REFRESH" content="0; url= refers to your affiliate link

and the <title> bit is what you want to appear in the browsers tab bar.

One other important part of this code (which you should NOT change) is

<meta name="robots" content="noindex" />

This part of the code tells search engine robots not to follow the link or index it. It is there to make sure the search engine doesn’t think you are trying to fool it. When it spiders your site, it will get to that point then ignore anything after it.

Once you have all this in place and uploaded to your webhosting you have your very own free affiliate link cloaker or re-direct to give it it’s proper name.

When you want to add another affiliate program, you simply create another folder or directory inside the ‘recommends’ folder and name it according to your new affiliate program and again put in the ‘index.html’ file (remember to change the red bits again!

You can of course, not bother with the ‘recommends’ folder and put directly in the root directory such as this example..

In this example I have created a folder named ‘yournight’ and in that folder is the ‘index.htm’ file.

This one is used to redirect to my ‘YourNite’ link which is normally..

Get the idea?

You could also use this to link to your biz op site, it’s not limited to just affiliate programs! You can link to anywhere you want.

Just one other thing before I go, if you want to add ‘anchor text’ to your new link, here’s the code to do it..

Let’s say I want to link to YourNight using the anchor text The new Facebook – this is the code..

You just change the web address and the bit that says ‘The new Facebook’ to suit YOUR affiliate program or biz op etc.

The ‘thank You’ page is the first page that a new subscriber to your email list will see. It’s your chance to make a good first impression. It can make or break your connection with your prospect and it does a lot to establish expectations about what your prospect is going to receive from you.

If all your thank you page does is try to sell them on even more stuff from you, you are creating the wrong impression, you are ‘Selling’ them. Rather than that try to offer even more free value such as another free download or e-book or maybe a link to a related article that will help your prospect even further.

Before going any further, for those that are new to email marketing, a ‘Thank You’ page is a web page that your prospect will automatically be taken to after they have completed your subscription form from your auto-responder.

Remember in network marketing we must build a relationship of trust with the prospect, connect with them. What better way to do this than to have a video of YOU thanking them personally and reassuring them of your privacy policy and how they can unsubscribe at any time from your list.

It’s really simple to do, just record a video of yourself then upload that video to Youtube and then get the embed code from your Youtube site and put it into your thank you page.

Another way of doing it is to use the Aweber Smart video. If you are using Aweber as your mailing list / Auto-responder system, then they offer something called Smart video thank you pages and  are the happy medium between AWeber’s default thank you page and your own custom URL.

They pass subscriber form data to the page so that everyone who signs up to your list gets a unique experience.

This is your subscriber’s name with your confirmation subject line. Not a generic “Check Your Inbox” message. And it’s as simple as choosing Smart Video Version from the thank you page drop down menu when you built your form.

Not only that, the smart thank you page will pick out the subscriber’s email provider and adjust the video accordingly.

So if someone enters an address that includes @gmail.com, they’ll see a video telling them to check their Gmail inbox. Likewise with Yahoo, Hotmail and many others.

If Aweber don’t have a specific video available (say, for addresses at personal domains), your subscriber will see a video showing the most popular email application for their operating system (Outlook for Windows, Mail for Mac OS X).

It’s probably the closest thing to magic you can experience using a web form…

Many people once they have been in network marketing for some time will want to start using video to train their downline. Such things as how to access and use all the back office facilities, how to make a blog or capture page etc. To do this they will need software that captures the screen images so that it can be turned into a video to upload to Youtube or to put on a training website.

The most common software for doing this is Camtasia for the PC (around $300) or Screenflow for the Mac (around $100) This software is known as ‘screencasting’ or ‘screen capture’ software.

For many just starting out, the cost of another ‘Tool’ such as Camtasia can be prohibitive.

So is there a cheaper alternative? Yes!

For the PC there’s a Microsoft program called Windows Media Encoder and the cost?

It’s FREE!

Although Windows Media Encoder only allows you to record to the WMV format, this should not be a problem as it is a widely recognised format that most video hosting sites such as Youtube, Vidler etc will accept. There are also many free video converters out there that will convert it to a different format should you need to.

For the Mac, you will need some software that allows you to run Windows programs to be able to use Windows Media Encoder. Here’s a link to a site that explains what you need depending on what Mac you have..

WME does not have as many features as Camtasia but it is a viable alternative and works very well and is well worth checking out if you are new to screen capture or just want to make a few simple training videos for your downline.

Below is an example of WME that has been uploaded to Youtube to produce a screen capture video..

This can then be embedded onto any website or blog for your downline to watch to learn whatever it is you are teaching. In the example above there is no audio but WME does record that as well. Alternatively you could just send a link to the Youtube video for them to watch there.

One of the only disadvantages of uploading to Youtube is they reduce the quality of the video so it is best to record it in WME at the highest resolution. But trial and error will produce something that is useable and free!

Your done! Now every time you post an article to your Wordpress blog it will automatically be submitted to all the sites listed on Onlywire thereby generating backlinks to your blog.

The old saying that goes ‘The money’s in the list’ is as true today a it ever was. So any way of capturing more email addresses to add to your list is a good one.

Today I will show you how you can use your rss feed in your blog or website to capture leads for your list.

If you were to add a little footer to your rss feed that led back to an email capture page, you not only have the opportunity to capture email addresses but you will also gain valuable links back to your site!

There is a plugin for Wordpress called ‘RSS Footer’ which allows you to do just that. This very simple plugin let’s you add an extra line of content to articles in your feed. You can get it from within Wordpress by going to ‘Plugins’ then ‘Add New’ and search for rss footer or visit the plugin site at http://yoast.com/wordpress/rss-footer/

Then once installed look under the ‘Settings’ Menu in wordpress and select ‘RSS Footer’ Here you will be able to add content to put in the footer.

You can use the following variables within the content, they will be replaced by the value on the right.

• %%POSTLINK%% : A link to the post, with the title as anchor text.
• %%BLOGLINK%% : A link to your site, with your site’s name as anchor text.
• %%BLOGDESCLINK%% : A link to your site, with your site’s name and description as anchor text.

I suggest you link back to a page in your blog or website that has an email capture form along with a description of just what it is you are offering in return for their email address. Remember, giving something away for free such as a report or an ebook is one of the best ways to get you visitor to part with their email address.

Another very simple thing you can do to capture more email addresses – It’s normally the little simple things that we all overlook – Enjoy!
